  Matthew's Adventures

In Peepaw's front yard,
He is the general of the army:
A fearless officer preceeding his troops
of tiny plastic soldiers
into the battles which he always wins.

When Gramma takes him to the pool,
He is the captain of his ship:
A leader like brave Gulliver
over the little invisible sailors
who are passengers on his toy boat.

On their livingroom sofa,
He is the champion driver
with his shining race car:
Zooming up and down the track,
complete with sound effects.

In their guest bedroom,
He is the King of the Jungle:
Presiding over a menagerie of stuffed toys
who come to life in his dreams,
bowing down to his powerful roar.

In their eyes,
He is a tiny angel
with a huge imagination:
His small face smiling as he sleeps,
dreaming of the adventures he has had today.
