No one was ashamed to cry
seeing the Dream Ship fall...
No one could know
the pain inside the craft
--if it were instant or drawn out
--if they had time to feel surprise
or know that it was the end.
The people on the ground
could only shake their heads
and hide their faces from the horror.
And each one behind a computer,
knowing that forever
there would be no way to escape
that tiny gnawing question
of personal responsibilty...
At home,
watching them all on TV,
we could only pray, and
no one
was ashamed to cry.
