  Connected

  Three thousand miles of
wire and signals
lie between us
and yet, somehow
you have touched me
    my mind

You are a face in a photograph,
 words on a computer screen
and yet, somehow
you have touched me
   my heart

You bring smiles and tears
You move me
   in the depths of my soul

The mention of your name
or a glimpse of your picture
stir emotions in  me
  emotions shared only by true friends.

Your presence
or absence
from my day
can change my outlook.

I long for the words on my screen
to come to life:
    for you warm hugs to enfold me,
    for the sunshine of your smile to brighten my day,
    for the sound of  your laughter to ring in my ears
    for the wetness of your tears to touch my shoulder
       and I long to dry those tears for you.

To me, you are as real as the wind on my face,
though still,
three thousand miles of
wire and signals
lie between us.
