  Grammie's Kitchen

She's a wonderful cook and we just love to go
Into her kitchen where we always know
It will smell oh so rich with aromas of love
Prepared by her hands and blessed from Above.

Its a puzzling place with a history rich--
An old woodstove sits in its own little niche,
But beside it a modern electrical range
and a microwave oven, so new... what a change!

She uses them all to prepare her fine dishes
The chicken, the pork roasts, the beef and some fishes,
The veggies and 'taters to go with the meats
And of course the desserts, the cookies, and sweets.

There are muffins with oatmeal and raisins and spice
Served warm with some butter for breakfast... so nice!
There's tasty milk gravy stirred smooth with a spoon,
So tasty on bread after dinner at noon.

There are pies that she bakes with a crust you can't beat,
So flaky and light it's a wonderful treat
There are raisins or apples or pumpkin inside
And Mystery Pie... We can't guess, but we've tried!

There is no one around who a cookie can make
To match those of Grammie, and we'll always take
A ginger snap, coconut chew, or the best--
The chocolate haystacks... our most favoritest!

In the corner a dishwasher, unused, abides.
Like a cupboard, some old odds and ends it does hide.
But for dishes--we just do not understand--
Our Grammie would much rather wash them by hand.

So this is our tribute to Gram and her kitchen,
Her love, and her cooking, and we'll bet you're wishing
you knew who she was;  You don't have to guess hard--
She was our loving Grammie, Merle White Bedard.
