  NOT A MU$ICIAN

The money doesn't matter.
He just wants them to hear the music,
  --but he may starve as he tries.

They cannot see
beyond their bankbooks.
They all believe
music is money.

And they do not attend
to the tugging in their hearts
after they send him away;
   They never forget
   the way he has touched them.
       But they keep on ignoring
       what they know.

He is not plastic noise
    or the glitter and lights
     of the stage.
His music is a message
   --not a dollar.
And he is not a beggar
    looking for alms.
He asks only to be heard,
    not fed.

Won't someone sit with me
   and listen?

they say,
"You don't make money being real."
