THE POET EXPOSED
She sees through the eyes of a painter
yet colors at the end of a brush fail her.
She hears music
yet her fingers cannot pluck strings or strike keys
to share with the world what her heart hears.
But when she puts a pen to paper
the colors flow and the music plays
in the way that only she can make them.
When she begins to write
hidden words sometimes come out
as new colors emerge on a painter's pallete
or harmonies when the songwriter plays
Dreams emerge that she
--even she--
did not know were inside.
When they read her words
they can see as she sees,
and hear as she hears.
Her soul completely bared
She is naked before them
--not by choice but...
She must release that which struggles
to overflow from within--
to share her joy,
to ease her pain,
to keep her sanity.
